This course is designed for absolute or near beginners, interested in learning how yoga can improve the flexibility, strength, and overall well-being of the body and mind. It’s also great for anyone who with an injury who wants to learn how to prevent and support those injuries throughout their practice.
In this 6-week course we will learn some of the fundamental aspects of a physical yoga practice, including how to breathe, the principles of alignment in various postures, and the ways in which each of these postures builds strength and flexibility. We will practice linking movement and breath, a powerful tool for shifting energy in the body and improving mental focus and clarity.
You’ll finish this course feeling clear about how to practice yoga safely and effectively, knowing ways you can adapt postures that don’t feel right in your body, and having experienced a taste of the benefits of yoga for your body, mind, and spirit.
About the Teacher
Ashley Handel has been practicing yoga for over 10 years, first discovering it as part of her undergraduate studies in Dance at California Institute of the Arts. She received her 200-hour training with Naomi Annand and Adam Hocke through Yoga on the Lane, where she learned the foundation for her sensitive and intuitive teaching. Her style of teaching is a mindful, slow Vinyasa Flow practice, combining movement and breath sequences with postural cues to facilitate building strength, flexibility, and awareness in the body. She is based in Walthamstow and teaches group and one-to-one yoga lessons throughout East London and beyond.
